Nørre Vorupør:

This little fishing village is becoming the danish surf mekka now. Situated in a very nordic and very nice area of Jutland, the form of the coastline and the sacred jetty here provide some of the best chances of ridable surf in this part of the north sea.

So when the weather reports show the slightest chance of waves, a still growing number of surfers invade the place and still get watched with couriosity by the typical Denmark tourists who spend their holidays in the numerous challets or campgrounds, that dominate the village. Allthough the town obviously now lives mostly from tourist business, the fishing boats on the beach regurarely venture out to open sea to fish and sell their fresh catch to the small factories beside the jetty. As the jetty gives only very limited protection from the often raging sea, the fishing boats have to be “anchored” on the beach. They get dragged through the soft sand by tractors.

The town offers all the basic supplies like supermarkets and fast food restaurants that the surfer / windsurfer / kiteboarder needs to still the hunger or thirst after the session. Accomodation is offered by the campgrounds and challets and the own van. As too many people overused the fairly easy local treatment of the strict interdiciton to camp wild in Denmark, police started to take some solid fees from people camping on the parking lots in town. Like so often in this area some few brainless dickheads make life difficult for the respectfull majority.

As local danish surfers are hopelessly outnumbered by visiting Germans, it would be a good idea to give absolute priority to the locals. Give ´em a smile and their share of waves and they will stay relaxed.

surf: the jetty / pier is very helpfull in creating surfable waves even in conditions with unfavourable winds. Depending on the actual form of the ever changing sandbars, the north side of the jetty offers lefts, that can get connect with the break at the small jetty and therefore produce pretty long rides. Getting out there is easy when You get into the water at the beginning of the stone jetty. On days with small waves, the little jetty in front of the fishing boats is the best option. Both waves are best surfed with longboards as the waves don´t break very fast and have lots of flat sections. Best wind direction for the north side is south to southwest.

On days with strong winds from the north or easterly offshores and remaining swell from a storm, the south side of the pier / jetty sometimes does the Hossegor thing. That´s when You rubb Your eyes in disbelief on the sight of clean, hollow and fast beachbreak waves. Shortboards only on these rare days and be prepared to break the on or other board.....

windsurf: winds from the south and the north offer some very nice wavesailing conditions. Southwesterly winds provide o.k. side - onshore wavesailing but with these conditions the place is owned by the surfers and near Klitmöller is the better option for sailing anyway.

kiteboarding: good conditions with winds of medium strengh from westerly directions. Start north of the little jetty and keep a safe distance to the surfers.
