Later in the day I drove to the north-western tip of the Reykjanes peninsula with the faint hope to find some waves at this exposed part of the coast. It was totally flat. I spent the night in the area and drove further north the next morning. Things only got interesting again when I reached the Hvalfjörður north of Reykjavik.

Instead of taking the shortcut through the tunnel underneath the fjord I took the narrow road running along its steep shores. The fjord cuts about 15 kilometres into the coastal mountains and thus the coast road means a good hour detour on the way north. The road was a bit bumpy and called for my full attention, so I took almost every advantage to stop once one of the rare opportunities for a halt besides the road appeared. Brilliant views were on offer, but I was ready for more than a quick glance and when I reached the inner end of the fjord, I followed a sign signalling the way to a waterfall.
