Up on the ridge on the south side of the river the path wound along the cliff-edge of the canyon which became deeper and deeper. Being afraid of heights would have been a major disadvantage now. The track ran along the cliff edge and the ascend gradually became steeper. After a while it reached the first waterfall – a small one – and one had to climb / slip down a wet rock shelf down to a small river to pass it.

From then on it was only upwards along a still very rough and steep track, mostly very close to the cliff edge from where you had an increasingly spectacular view into the canyon and down to the fjord. The canyon was very deep now - easily 100 meters at this point – and ridiculously narrow. It looked like some giant had hacked his axe into the mountainside. Up at the ridge the Glymur waterfall was now visible in its full impressing height of almost 200 meters.

I had felt a bit chilly at the beginning of my walk the climb up to here had warmed me up more than sufficiently. It was still a way to go to reach the top of the waterfall and it didn´t get any easier. But it was worth every drop of sweat and the burning thighs. You couldn´t see the base of the waterfall anymore from up here because the cliffs were vertical now and the canyon so narrow. But with a bit of carefully balancing and supressing fear I had a stunning view into the abyss. It was fantastic!
