Things were different at the northwest facing bays and I could imagine some waves breaking here during a west swell. Hefty winter swells will surely wreak havoc on these exposed parts of the coast. I was wondering about the potential to find surfable waves here which due to the remoteness of this place would probably be never fully revealed.
A little bit further north the road turned northeast and soon reached another bay with some small islands just offshore and a few lakes inland. The area belongs mostly to a large farm and therefor is limited in access. The sea was still absolutely calm and without a ripple here, so it was impossible to guess if there could be any surfable waves breaking at the black sand / gravel beach just below the road.
East of the bay the road climbed up a to a higher cliff with another island in front of it. Up here I could distinguish some lines out at sea for the first time. Obviously, there was some leftover swell from the east running through the otherwise smooth ocean surface and my excitement immediately jumped a notch. Not that I hadn´t been pleased by the beautiful land- and seascapes I had witnessed on my way over here, but some motion on the ocean always gives me extra joy.
