Ice-EP12-135h

The way to the bay from the road was fenced off but further inland I found a gravel track turning off and heading in direction to the bay. I followed it until I reached some farmhouses close to the bay. Two farmers were working aside of the road and gave me puzzled looks. I stopped the van and asked if there was a possibility to access the beach, but they told me it was private land and that I couldn´t continue. I politely apologized and turned round to get back to the main road in a grumpy mood.

That bay looked very interesting and yet it was just another “you can look (from far) but not touch” the sand at the beach let alone the sea location. I had to live with it and drove up to the summit where the gravel road reached the tarmac road crossing the base of the peninsula. I followed it east and down to Sauđárkrókur where I spent the night on the local campground.

Monday was blessed with fine weather again, but it would be another day on the road as I planned to head back south to the Reykjanes peninsula to take advantage of a promising swell forecast for the upcoming days. Not far away from Sauđárkrókur I had a quick stop at Glaumbćr, for a visit of the Heritage Museum which exhibits an ensemble of restored farmhouses from the 19th century.
