I passed a fairly large and busy harbour and stopped at the town centre. It consisted of neatly coloured houses with wood panelling, which is a rare sight on Iceland due to the lack of local forests and the harsh climate, which wears down these panels quickly. I found a nice little café and had a coffee and some cookies.
I didn´t stay long though as I was on my usual mission and the large sandy beach plus the little peninsula in the middle of the bay had to be explored. So, I drove the short distance along the beach and up on the hill in the middle of the bay to get an overview. From there I had a wide view across the inland wetlands and lagoons, the river mouth and the black sand beach stretching from here to the town.
It was unclear how much surf potential the beach had, as it lay at the inner end of the long fjord. Probably needed a big northeast swell to catch some waves. At the moment it was very windy, and I was tempted to go windsurfing. But the wind was blowing almost completely onshore and very strong, probably too strong for my smallest sail. So I stopped the search mission for now and returned to my base camp at Skagaströnd.
