Ice-EP12-93h

When I finally reached the lookout point above the bay the vision down at the point and into the bay was promising. I now regretted not having invested more time to explore the point and the access to it the day before. So, I decided to not experiment and drove straight down to the bay and from the main road onto the gravel road leading to the small settlement in the middle of the bay.

Here I checked the northern beach first but only found un-surfable and quite chaotic waves breaking. The southern bay was flat at this end but looked better at its western end. So, I returned to the main road and took off on another gravel road at the western end of the bay. As soon as I got out of the van and close to the beach my beloved Arctic Terns appeared and rode fierce attacks on me. I couldn´t even get down to the beach. But I saw enough of the sea to realize that the swell was gone or too small for this direction anyway as it was almost flat. Exploring new territory in search of surf is a difficult task.

I was a bit disappointed – and getting a bit fed up with the meagre rewards for the many kilometres of driving after that morning session – but the fine weather cheered me up again and I decided to put my focus on enjoying the beautiful landscape.
