Thursday, August 24th was different. The sun decided not to appear this day and it was grey and cool. There was still very little wind and some swell left, albeit significantly smaller now. I checked the reef and decided it was too small for this break. Too small as the still nicely lined up waves broke into very shallow water.
So, I drove to the beach. It was far from epic, but the glassy waves broke over sand bottom and were nicely lined up. I paddled out with the longboard and had a couple of decent rides. But I was somewhat spoiled from the past two sunny and warm days and the combination of mediocre waves, the cold and the dull colours made me return to shore soon.
The swell was decreasing anyhow and so I decided to head west for better parts of the peninsula and check some places on the way. My first stop was at a south facing part of the coast consisting of a mix of flat lava rocks and sandy patches in between. A horse skull was marking the path to a quite nice reef – sandbar setup, but the wind was too onshore to make it worth paddling out.
