Ice-EP14-28h

The waters of the lagoon and the icebergs were shimmering in a steely light blue, sometimes with clear structures, sometimes just blurred silhouettes. It was a fantastic magic world albeit very different to the magic of the clear days I had witnessed before. It once more proved that there is no real bad weather at this part of the island which could prevent you from finding some natural wonders.

But it wasn´t very comfortable out in the rain and we still had some distance to drive and were a little bit hungry. The hunger we fought with some lobster rolls – very expensive – that we bought at one of the fast-food trucks at the main parking of the lagoon. Then we headed further south on the Ring Road but didn´t make it very far.

I pulled off the Ring Road and drove to a rough parking within a black landscape that could have been on Mars. Black is the dominating colour of the sandy plain and the cragged massive mountain flanks behind it. It could have been Mordor if there weren´t all these patches of moss and lichen desperately clinging to the steep and unstable gravel and rock flanks of the mountains.
