I went on further down the road until I reached the lighthouse and turned around here hoping for better conditions at the bay at the village. And indeed, shortly before the village the view through the right-hand window of my van got me excited. I couldn´t park here for closer inspection of even beach access and therefor drove into the village and found a way down to the stone beach.
Down there another teaser-set smiled at me but that was it. The tide was probably too high now and the waves vanished. So, I moved on to another part of the coast dominated by lava rocks and reefs and points. I followed the narrow road following the rugged coastline of the southern tip of the Reykjanes peninsula in search for a particular beach but didn´t find it. Tired of driving I turned around and headed back to Grindavik, where I planned to spend the night on the local campground.
On the way back I passed a turnoff to a dirt track and decided to follow it just to see where it would go. I ended on a rough parking close to the sea, overlooking a flat lava rock and boulder shoreline. The general setup was very interesting with a small bay and a point to the right and a combination of reefs in front. These reefs created two peaks, both with – as far as I could judge from the small swell – juicy rights and shorter and less fast lefts.
