The warm light of the low standing sun put the scenery in in increasingly beautiful colours. So, I stood on the small bridge crossing the river coming from the waterfall for quite a while and soaked in the beauty of the fall and the surrounding rocks and green meadows. Despite the thundering noise from the water masses crashing into the pond it was a very contemplative experience.
Then I walked up the path to get behind the fall. This slippery walk gets very wet as the crashing waters send loads of spray into the air. But once you get to the hollowed-out area behind the waterfall it gets a little less wet as long as you stay very close to the rock walls. The noise is deafening here but the view is brilliant. I continued the surrounding of the fall just in time for the setting sun to send some final dramatic rays on the scenery. I waited until the sun disappeared and then walked back to the campground.
Saturday, July 29th
The morning was overcast and after breakfast I had a look at the second attraction of this place, the Glufurarfoss. This is another waterfall with the same height as the Seljalandsfoss but it stays invisible once you don´t know where to look for it.
