I drove to the east side of the cliff and was greeted with a beautiful view on the coast. Down at the almost windless sea a small swell was rolling onto the black-sand beach. And just 3 meters from where I stood watching the sea, puffins were busy bringing seafood to their offspring in the breeding caves.

The busy birds – and there were masses of them roaming the air and landing on and starting from the cliffs – and the odd pretty set of waves peeling along the sandbar were competing for my attention. But as there was no legal access down to the beach from the peninsula, I opted for walk westwards along the cliff edge. At a certain point I was once again attacked by that Arctic Tern couple in a terrifying way which made me run as quick as I could to get out of their territory.

Once safe I could enjoy the mild weather and brilliant view on the rock arch out at sea again und slowly walked up to the lighthouse. From here I had a brilliant overview on the vast black-sand beach to the west with the Vestmannaeyjar islands visible at the horizon in the clear air and inland on the fantastic mountain landscape with the might Mýrdalsjökull glacier in the back. This definitely is one of the more beautiful places on earth.
