A few days ago, I had spotted a part of the coast that might be interesting. Offshoots of the mighty Reykjanes lave fields hat created a mix of flat lava rocks and sandy beaches here with another lagoon just inland. I also had found a drivable dirt track leaving the main road and running pretty close to the shoreline. That´s where we turned off and drove down the track until we reached some larger flat lava rocks where we could park the cars without blocking the dirt road.

The wind was a very stiff side-offshore here and some waves were braking over a mix of sandbars and shallow rocks. This was obviously one of the few places in the area that worked properly with small swells. Kaspar paddled out here but due to the stiff wind it was more of a setup familiar to his Danish hometown Klitmøller. I decided to get back on the road and search for some better waves.

A few kilometres further west the road climbs up onto a thick lava tongue and leads through a fantastic landscape of moss-covered lava rocks with volcanic mountains and cliffs to the right, and the ocean in a distance to the left. This is the stunning Reykjanes Geo Park, created by massive volcanic eruptions sending huge lava flows to the sea just yesterday in geological terms.
