A couple of kilometres further west I left the Ring road again, this time to the south. The road was leading to the harbour for the ferries heading to the Vestmannaeyjar islands, a sort of mini Faroe replica just off the coast. There was no particularly good swell forecast for the day, but I thought it would be good to grab one of the rare chances to get to the sea in this area.
A strong easterly wind was blowing when I passed the large sandy flats on the way to the harbour. The harbour is tiny but offers direct access to endless sand beaches. A small wind-swell was running and I was considering going for a windsurf session, but the wind was probably too strong for my smallest sail. So, I returned to the main road and headed further west until I reached my destination on the Reykjanes peninsula. A nice swell was forecasted for the following days and I thought that this might be the right place to be.
I checked in at the local camping and went for a swell check. The setup looked promising and the small swell already hinted that I was at the right point.
