The following day had Mistral again and I used an otherwise horrible visit at the IKEA at Toulon for a quick detour to the Presqu´ ile de Giens and had a stop at Almanarre, a former hot spot of windsurfing during the 80ies and 90ies.

When I arrived, the wind was light but it pretty soon picked up and I went out with the 4,5 sail again. Despite blowing onshore I had fun for about an hour until the wind picked more and more up and finally was howling at force 8. At least another little training sailing session with sunshine and still very warm temperatures.

The rest of the two weeks in the area were a mix of calm late summer days which we used for little excursions to Saint Tropez and its vicinity and the odd bicycle tour in the coastal hills. Saint Tropez still is worth a visit despite being hyped for decades now. Now – in late October – it was less crowded but still lively – in winter the majority of shops and restaurants and bars are closed and the town is kinda deserted -  which is a good mixture especially in combination with the mild weather.

One day me booked a boat excursion into the bay and had the pleasure to watch the town and the beautiful peninsula with the sometimes impressive estates of the ultra-rich together with only a handful of other tourists.
