I had walked the coast for this surf check and despite the regular sunny spells, I was freezing again. The north-westerly wind added some wind chill to the single digits air temperatures and the odd rain squall provided some nice rainbows but didn´t really help with getting warm. I returned to the van and drove the short distance to the plateau overlooking the cape and the main break.
Once up there the sunny spells completely vanished and it changed to constant rain and grey skies. Aside from me it was only the two guys from Milano in their classic T2 VW buses hanging out there. In the late morning these two lost patience and climbed down the cliff and paddled out into the junky but somewhat unruly waves. I still felt too uncomfortable and cold and choose to have some warm food and watch.
Matching their vans, the Milano guys were surfing classic boards, be it a single fin retro shape longboard, mid-length single fins or classic fishes. They have been around since my arrival and now obviously were the only strangers besides me. Having this spot completely wired they made the best out of the difficult conditions and were once again a pleasure to watch.
