From here on the road winds through the coastal mountains which makes it a strenuous drive while the road demands too much focus to enjoy the surrounding beautiful landscape. It´s an endless succession of curves and at best allows for an average speed of just above 40 kilometres per hour with my van.
When I passed Propriano it started to rain. The last 50 kilometres to Ajaccio it was pouring rain and for additional pleasure the electronics of my van issued “engine failure” warnings again. I was very relieved when I reached the outskirts of Ajaccio, but only for a short time a I soon was stuck in the evening rush hour which meant that basically half of the city was one enormous traffic jam.
Things only eased up when I passed the historic town centre and reached the coast road leading to the Îles Sanguinaires. I pulled into one of the larger parking lots alongside this rode, ate something and went to sleep.
