I had already learned that local winds were a fickle factor at the west coast of the island, obviously very difficult to predict until the very last moment and with a notorious tendency to blow onshore. At the moment, the frontrunners of the wind field fulfilled yesterday´s prediction and I had a good chance for a windsurfing session.
So, as much as I enjoyed the slow access to this stunning coast and the even slower approach to the harbour through the narrow entrance into the fjord at the base of the town centre on the towering cliff, I was a little bit impatient to reach firm land and head off to a certain bay at the east coast. I didn´t miss a short stop on the road though, to take a look on the spectacular south facing part of the town from above the cliff.
But I only stayed for a few minutes before I was back on the road and completed the short drive to Plage du Sperone. During summer season this place is packed with windsurfers and kite surfers anytime the wind blows, but now it was deserted. I hadn´t expected anything else and was ready to enjoy this beautiful place all by myself, but the wind was too westerly and thus a very gusty offshore with air temperatures very low. The combination deemed me too dangerous, so I left and headed west.
