And mountains seemed a viable plan B for the remaining day and so I decided not to waste too much time hoping for another change of the local winds and returned to the van to head inland. But the van didn´t start properly, running only on three cylinders while issuing that engine failure warning again. To my relieve a coupe of restarts finally led to the engine running on all cylinders, but I stayed nervous.
I made it across the pass and into Ajacchio without further problems but once I was on the long and sometimes steep ascent to the Col de Vizzavona at the inland mountain range, the engine had the odd cut-out again. I became very nervous and was very relieved when I finally reached the summit. My big hope was that I at least would make it to the ferry and having reached the pass very much improved my chances.
Knowing that from here on it was a long descend I dared to stop the van for a quick break. I found some relaxation in the surrounding beautiful mountain landscape but still was tense when I restarted the van. It was running but now again with the unnerving alarm sound telling me about engine failures.
