This was extra difficult with my van which is quite long and high, but with luck I found a niche where I could park it at least semi-legal. That place was still some distance away from the beach, so before carrying my stuff down there I walked to check what sail sizes the others were using. I had already been suspicious about the wind being very strong and down at the beach I saw that the other guys had sails in the 3.5 to 4.0 range. Even kite surfers were flying around with tiny kites. My smallest sail was 4.5 and way too big.
I would have to wait for the wind to drop a little bit. So, I walked along the coast to have a look at a little point break setup not far away. I speculated that the little headland would give protection from the wind and maybe provide some good surfing conditions. Once there I found a break in front of a little jetty. The rights had some wind protection, but the lefts were fully exposed to the howling side-shore winds.
