Getaway-66h

Sunday was rainy again and the exercise of the day consisted of a walk up the hills behind the house again once the rain had eased off in the late afternoon.

Monday it was raining again. In fact, it was pouring down. A hefty easterly wind was blowing which meant wind-swell again but onshores until the afternoon, when the wind was forecasted to do a slow 180-degree turn. I left around noon and drove east again. East of Sainte Maxime I saw the first waves, with quite a bit of size but still very windblown. I kept driving to that east facing bay. Here the wind was already coming form a northerly direction and slowly turned west. Waves were a good meter but with good form due to the side-offshore wind. I paddled out into an almost empty lineup in still pouring rain.

For about two hours there were surfable waves, with most of the time just five surfers out. The air was cold and the offshore not only tortured your face with raindrop-bombardments, but also made take-offs quite fickle. But the waves were really nice despite their small size and I had a fun session in conditions reminding me very much of the North Sea.
