I had faint hopes for some surf-able waves at the Sydmolen and stopped here for a first check. It was sunny and quite warm and almost windless when I climbed the dune. Up there I spotted long period swell lines, but the breaking waves were tiny. That would have been different a decade ago with the shorter old jetty, but the new one was too long for that swell size and direction to let pass something worth paddling out. So, I made a quick stop at the local supermarket and then was on the road again heading further north.
When I reached the – currently sleeping – Queen of the Coast it was about an hour before sunset. Waves were small here too, but at least close to surfable. I grabbed my longboard and paddled out. To my great pleasure the Sea was still pretty warm and with the absence of any wind and the sun still above the horizon it was very cosy in my 4-mill wetsuit. To my not-so-great pleasure I fell at my first take-off and fell in a way stupid enough to get my board rammed into my wade in a very painful way.
