But just when I got to my feet and already had my focus on the speedy first section I realized that two of my fellow were paddling right in front of me. I had no chance to avoid collision let alone getting around them and immediately bailed while trying to keep my board from hitting the guy in front of me. Luckily no one got hurt and the boards survived the collision without damage. I nevertheless was pissed, knowing that this might have been the wave of my day.

But the vibe was too good out here in our small group for any lasting tensions and so I paddled back out hoping for the next set to arrive soon. But it took too long and I soon was freezing too much (I might consider changing my 5 years old wetsuit for a new one) and so I went in, got a little bit warmer during the climb up the dune and went to my van where the first thing to do was making a hot coffee and then change into dry clothes.

The wind had increased even more and become a stiff offshore while at the same time the peak of the swell arrived. With the wind came rain. The rain didnīt matter as it poured over near perfection. Long lines were running across the sea, at times barely distinguishable through the rain squalls, and despite rain it didnīt look like the North Sea. O. k. there probably arenīt too many people left who can be fooled into believing that the North Sea does not get good waves. So letīs call it a pretty good swell.
