I was greeted with the typical acid smell of the fish processing factory but the waves breaking here looked good enough to compensate the inevitable irritation of my scent. It was far from epic and still smaller than expected and as usual the waves were breaking with very little power, but they were having nice long left shoulders and would provide some nice cruisy longboard rides.
I had a quick coffee and some cookies and then paddled out to join about two handfuls of other glide enthusiasts. To my delight all of them were on surfboards and the shifting peaks spread them over a large area. Ich choose my typical position a bit further outside and had a couple of nice cruisy lefts.
In the early afternoon the wind turned south and dropped but so did the swell. More and more people were arriving now and with them a wider range of wave-riding vehicles. There were the inevitable SUPs, some sea kayaks and one guy on a foil SUP. Luckily, they had different preferences in positioning and choosing peaks and the middle peak was still mainly surfer – particularly a longboard surfer – area. There were still some nice sets running and after the early afternoon lull the swell picked up a bit again
