I finished my session, had more food and a little noon nap. Meanwhile the tide was pretty high and the peak to the right came alive again. The wind was a light onshore but the waves still had size and were breaking well. I grabbed my board and went for another session. When I was literally finished with this third session it was still just early afternoon. My body probably would not tolerate another session and I was a bit unsure about what to do with the rest of the day. The forecast for the following days and my shrinking time budget for this trip called for starting the journey back and throwing in some more time at the French and Spanish Basque coasts.
On the other hand I only had stayed a couple of hours here and did not really like the idea of having to drive long distances that soon again. So I left Laredo undecided and had a first stop at the road leading to the motorway that offers this great view above the town and the Ria and the coast further north. There were still small lines visible in the bay. The wind was a very light southerly breeze now.
I decided to stay another day. As the swell was supposed to drop, which meant it would vanish at the Laredo beaches, the more exposed coast further north on the other side of the Ria was looking like the best option. So I drove a short way further west on the motorway until I reached the other side of the river. The route through the wetlands was stunning once again and after a short curvy part on firmer ground I reached Playa de Berria. There was still about an hour with daylight left and when I reached the first parking I immediately walked the few meters to the small dunes bordering the beach.
