What I then saw looked pretty good. The swell had a good size and was cleaning up with the dropping and south-turning wind. The tide was pretty low and the large beach offered some empty peaks at the cliffs to the left, a crowded peak with good running lefts and rights to the middle and more but less frequented peaks at the cliffs to the right.

For a moment I was tempted but my body said no. So I watched for a while until sunset and then followed another demand of my body: get something to eat. Nearby Santona seemed to be the best bet to obey to this request. After about 10 minutes driving I reached the outskirts of this town and decided to park along the larger roads at the border to the city centre. Once again this was a town that felt a bit surreal when entering for the first time. One of the first things I stumbled upon was a large mural on the walls of a seventies style apartment block. Needless to say, that the mural had a certain heroic style that must have time lapsed from seventies Soviet Union. But the colours were fresh and proved that socialism still is a factor here.

At a street corner nearby I spotted a bar that looked inviting. I went for a closer look and realized that the bar was occupied by a large bunch of old men playing cards. I decided not to disturb them and walked deeper into town. Again I passed a mix of semi-modern buildings with the odd historic house in between until I reached a large square. Here a wider range of bars and restaurants were on offer and I had hope to sooth my now nagging hunger with a decent meal. I choose one restaurant and sat down but soon learned that the kitchen was still closed.
