But I was disappointed. The sea in front of me lay almost completely flat. On second glance I could distinguish some lines further out and it got clear that the forecast wasn´t wrong but I had miscalculated its impact on the part of the coast where I was staying. The wind direction was too offshore, and the resulting swell completely missed this part of the coast. This is a tricky body of water!

I went to check more exposed parts of the peninsula but did not find surf-able waves. The most obvious next step was to change to the other side of the peninsula and that was what I did. I now was occasionally raining and once I passed the hills and reached the area fully exposed to the wind this became torrential rain.

Luckily the rain eased off a bit when I reached the small harbour town hosting the only (at least known to me) surf break at this side of the peninsula. There were waves here, but so was the wind, blowing full onshore. It is almost always onshore here when waves are breaking, but the rocky coast manages to transform even the ugliest onshore wave chaos into something surf-able which is the main reason for this spot always being full of surfers.
