And then another one. The two surfers still out were screaming with joy on their obscure rides. Vince and René paddled over too and immediately caught some good-sized long lefts. It was too dark to shoot any photos now, but the remaining little light was just ok for the surfers to somehow catch and ride waves.
The problem was: due to wind and swell direction the sea level had risen about half a meter about normal and the white-water was now rushing over shallow stone ground and straight into the shore consisting of rough rock blocks. To safely make your way out here would have been already a tricky task during daylight. Now in the almost complete dark it was a serious challenge.
I tried to bring some light into their way out by lighting my car lights, but these were too low to reach the lineup. But the huge camping car besides me had its lights position high enough to light the sea. One of the remaining surfers – I think it was René – used this for one last ride and he and Vince made it to dry land safely.
We had an after-surf beer and discussed the session and the strange flatness occurring when I pointed my camera on the two of them (we suspected that there was a spell on it that starts working as soon as Vince comes into its focus) before the two of them left. I went to bed soon after, awaiting another good forecast for Monday.
