Seasoned locals whisper that the best strategy to avoid overly large line-up crowds is to wait until the late afternoon. According to these rumours most surfers are too impatient and tend to paddle out too soon, which means they are already exhausted in the afternoon and crowds significantly thin out, while the swell regularly picks up size about an hour before sunset and stays pumping until it gets dark.

I haven´t got enough experience with this area to confirm this, but this Monday evening it was definitely worth to follow this strategy. Solid sets were now regularly coming in and the crowd had thinned out despite some late arrivals (some of these guys actually had to work that day) hastily paddling out at dusk.

They were still out when I left. It was already too dark to take photos but obviously still lit enough to catch waves.
