But besides the smell there will be left nothing but a few bones that the cats and seagulls fight for, nothing comparable to the affluence trash, that creates bigger problems than just a bad smell.

O.k., plastic garbage is not a specific Moroccan, but a worldwide problem that you have to face on many otherwise paradisiac windsurf and surf destinations. And it is the only negative aspect that we can report after our trip. Otherwise we liked Morocco and the area around Essaouira a lot, not just the ocean, where we could slice a few nice waves, but also the people and culture. Outstanding and most impressive was the kindness of the people which was very remarkable also in comparison to other countries we had visited before.

And once you dive into the evening atmosphere of Essaouira you start feeling like a dream of 1001 nights has become reality. So, check out yourself the next departure of a flying carpet……

How to get there:

Driving there by car or flying are reasonable options for a visit. We were surprised by the number of camper vans with European licence plates staying in the area for extended time periods. But for example from Hamburg this means about 2,800 km driving to Tarifa / Algeciras, then you have to take the ferry and drive another 750 km to Essaouira. Takes about 3 days one way and is only worth if you have a lot of time.
