I drove down to the historic town centre and parked at the beach promenade (something that is impossible during main tourist season). I had another look at the beach.

There was still just a weird shore break and no surf-able wave. I went to search a bar for breakfast and worming up and was lucky to find one that had open in the empty streets of the old town.

After breakfast I went for another check. Still no surf-able wave in sight. I decided to hike up the cliffs to check if the wave I was looking for breaks at another part of the coast. The walk on top of the cliffs is utterly beautiful with stunning views on the rolling green hills dropping abruptly into vertical white cliffs with the odd elegantly shaped arch.

I walked for about half an hour and took every detour on the cliffs that stick further out into the sea to check if there is some reef working down at the foot of the cliffs. But the tide was too high for every part of the shore that I checked.

So I walked back. As I passed the last hill and walked down the path to town I had a surprising sighting.

There were surfers out in a lineup that didn´t exist an hour before.
