I was hungry and decided to have breakfast in a small bar nearby. Bake on the bridge, the scenery was the same. Nice swell, no wind, but waves still unorganized and breaking either without power or in complete chaos. Another guy had paddled out on a fish but realized that he had way too little volume for these mushy waves. He managed to catch one decent wave, made it through to the reform in front of the bridge and took advantage of this rare occurrence to surf back to the beach.
Same with the Bavarians who had entered the lineup too. They also struggled hard to catch waves and took beatings by the odd bigger set. At least the sun had managed to warm up the air and it was pretty pleasant weather now.
It looked like the either the sandbanks were completely out of shape or the swell had something wrong. According to the forecast it should be 4-5 ft at 9 seconds during the morning. Anyhow, I had seen the place work much better in previous visits (check this and this and this) and at least the 2013 visit had much worse forecasted swells.
But hey, it was sunny and there were never more than 3 guys at once in the lineup and there were several peaks and the odd rideable wave.
But for the moment I had seen enough and went back to the van to drive a little bit further south to check the next pier.
