But this sand rinsing had another very positive effect, as I soon found out: it created a perfect sandbar. THE sandbar that I had been searching all day because it managed to transform the tiny groundswell into surfable waves. Into very surfable waves in fact. They were peeling perfectly for about 100 meters and had enough size to ride them with a long board. In no time I slipped into my wetsuit and went out. No paddling was needed as you could walk to the lineup.
You needed a bit of patience out there as suitable sets arrived only every 10 to 15 minutes. But the lineup was only populated by a handful of other surfers, most of them beginners, so I could choose my set waves without having to fight for them. As bonus the waiting time was shortened by a couple of dolphins a bit further out which also took advantage off the abundance of food that got swept out by the pipes.
All of the few happy surfer-souls out there stayed until the sun disappeared to get the most of these rare coincidences. Sometimes size doesn´t matter, you just need a proper sandbar.
