I drove straight to North Bay, stopped, had a look at the waves and immediately returned to the hostel to get my board. Again I decided to dress at the hostel and walk across the hill for warming up. The first view from the top of the hill revealed: it was still good. Once in a while bigger sets rolled in but they never were too big. As usual for this bay, the waves broke pretty soft and well organized at the outside. This suits longboards a lot whereas the inside gets steeper and faster and produces fun waves for smaller boards.
Down at the beach I waited for a set to break and then walked / paddled easily out to the outer peak. The inside was pretty packed despite this being an early Monday afternoon. The outside was just occupied by me and two other guys. You had to be a bit more patient out here but the reward was a nice left that starts slow but picks up pace once it reaches the inside bar. You could also grab a right out there which was running a bit shorter but still is fun.
After a couple of minutes of waiting a nice set approached and I paddled for the left. I was either a notch too deep or too slow in getting to my feet and fell during the drop. Once underneath the surface I felt a short pull at my leash which suddenly stopped. Shit. The leash had broken. When I resurfaced, the board was gone. The beating was not really serious – in fact it was no beating at all - and I couldn´t believe that the leash had broken at all.
