I soon realized that the general mechanics of where the waves break at this spot and how to navigate through the inside and outside break while not getting stuck in the currents of the flats in between hadnīt changed.
Still, the combination of strong side-onshore winds and serious wave size at the outside sandbars made for some challenging wave-sailing. I had a couple of nice backside wave rides but going frontside was very difficult with the side-onshore and gusty wind. Actually, I was a bit intimidated by the conditions and never really relaxed.
It nevertheless felt good to be out in these thrilling conditions and feel the raw power of the North Sea again. I didnīt sail very long though to save energy for the following days, when the conditions were forecasted to be much better with sideshore winds and 2-to-3-meter waves. The day ended in a beautiful sunset and once the star had disappeared behind the horizon I walked into town to find some place to eat.
