Denmark was my destination and I headed to Hvide Sande hoping for a string of days with side shore winds and solid waves. Northerly winds also meant that I could finally go wave-sailing in starboard tack conditions again, something I haven’t done for ages despite this being my favourite wind directions.
There was little traffic on the way north and I cruised within my self-chosen speed limit of max 105 km/h and reached the parking behind the dunes at Sydmolen at about ten. A quick beer helped to tone down my systems and fall asleep soon.
Thursday, 15 September
It had rained all night but when I got up the sun had appeared and got the upper hand. The wind was a stiff northwest, in the upper twenty knot range. First thing I did after having my morning coffee was hiking up the dune and check the sea. The wind was blowing side-onshore and came with some solid swell, albeit not breaking very good. I remembered that the Sydmolen banks are very sensitive to the tides nowadays and apparently it was the wrong tide at the moment. There was a lot of white-water chaos out there and the waves had neither form nor any clear peak.
