This first view showed some small waves rolling into the bay with enough shelter from the wind and the sun still high enough to immerse the beach and the town in beautiful light. I found a parking lot at the promenade to the Spa, slipped into my wetsuit and paddled out on the longboard to relax the stiff muscles after one and a half days of driving.

After a short but refreshing session I wanted to get into one of the Italian restaurants in town to fuel up some energy but all of them were full. The fine weather had attracted a lot of people to spend the day at the beach and they were now flooding the restaurants. Luckily, I found a pub with enough free tables before I got too angry due to low sugar levels. I had a burger and two beers and fell into a deep sleep in my van soon after, knowing that the forecast for Sunday was excellent.

Sunday morning was one of these mornings that give sense to all these hours spent on motorways and roads. I opened the door of the van and was greeted by bright sunshine, a light offshore wind and a sea with beautiful swell lines. The tide was low and the north swell had enough juice to deliver at both bays. South Bay offered the mellower surf as always with this swell direction whereas North Bay had more size and punch. It also had the bigger crowd but the lineup was spread across several peaks.
