I waited for a little bit longer but despite a bit of up and down the wind established itself with a westerly direction. I left and drove along the coast to have a look at the freak wave at Portreath.

To my surprise there was much less wind over there and the “crowd” only consisted of three guys. To my even bigger surprise the wave rebounded in pretty good form from the harbour wall. But the onshore surely would reach this bay very soon too.

So, I continued driving northeast. It was time to get back home – and to work – anyhow. Should be there Monday evening. But on the way, I wanted to check some other parts of the English coast. Supposing that the wind would turn west north-west as forecasted I thought that there might be a last chance to get wet at the channel coast. South-westerly swell and north-westerly wind should be a good combination here.

Near Bodmin I was surprised as the wind seemed still be coming from the south here. I nevertheless – the wind will surely turn onshore soon in this area too – took the road east leading to Plymouth. The peninsula west of the river-mouth was my destination. It was still raining when I left the main road close to Plymouth and drove over roads that got more and more narrow to the Whitsand Bay.
