Looks like the wind forecast has been very difficult with this weather system. The area had potential but not today. I gave up hope for a last surf and drove to the ferry passing the Tamar that brings you right into town centre. The fee of 1.50 pounds was surprisingly low and made it worth waiting a couple of minutes for the boat instead of taking the detour on the main road.

I passed Plymouth and took the motorway heading to Exeter. This motorway follows the eastern outskirts of the Dartmoor and offers nice views on this natural gem. On the exit of the motorway there was a sigh for Buckfast Abbey. That sounded interesting and I drove to the abbey that happened to be situated just besides the motorway.

The abbey was nice, but not overly exciting. As I felt the need for some more adventure after this day with failed surfing attempts, I decided to get deeper into the mystique Dartmoor.  I drove through hilly agricultural country on very narrow roads – sometimes both of my rear windows touched the hedges – until I reached the river Dart. There was an ancient and again very narrow stone bridge to pass it and get into the moors. Passing it with my van was a mission.
