It was an experience nevertheless and at least I had seen a little bit more of the moors in contrary to the last time I had been here, when it was all covered with thick fog for a couple of days. This is a fantastic place and always worth a detour.
In the early evening, I was back on the motorway and headed east through more pouring rain. I reached Dover at half past one in the morning and as there was once again no possibility to park the van for spending the night I drove straight to the ferry port and took the next ship available. I arrived at Calais at half past three and had to drove another hour before I finally found a service station along the motorway with enough free parking facilities to park the van and get some sleep. It was already 5 in the morning and the day was dawning before I got to sleep.
The following day was all driving which always is a pain in the a$§ but was a price I happily paid for the very nice past week on the island.
