Peaks were a bit shifty and a couple of these fine lines ended in closeouts but set waves were head high and besides the trusty lefts there were a couple of speedy rights that offered a rip-able wall and the odd little tunnel.
It was as good as it gets here and lasted until noon, when the tide got too high. Having my first decent session under the belt I felt like getting around to check some other places. Rising tide plus a 1.5 meter swell plus offshore winds,
I knew where to go.
During my last trip to this coast in January I had eventually learned the basic rule for this area. Lower tides are good for the beachies, higher tides are good for the reefs.
When I reached the bay, and checked it from the cliffs I saw, that the tide had just reached the level when the point starts working. It was still very mellow and with a very short shoulder but it already peeled nice and managed to complete the 90 degree turn into the bay. A few guys were paddling out.
The had just reached the lineup, when the first bigger sets rolled in. The small additional rise of the tide had completely changed the wave. It was still far from “best English wave” status but at least set waves had some seriousness in them.
