Positioning was a bit difficult – like always – and trying to take off where the swell meets the reef first would have been a risky thing. Lining up a bit further inside was the better plan and being a goofy footer further improved your chance for a nice ride.

The swell made no intention to back off but the already sparsely populated lineup at the point started to thin out. Meanwhile the beachies around the corner attracted way more surfers battling the high tide closeouts.

Whatever the reason was for the love of local surfers for the beachies, it was an unreal day everywhere. The sun was out most of the time, it was pretty warm (at places sheltered from the wind a T-shirt was all you needed) and the wind stayed a light offshore breeze. The whole scenery was very un-North Sea-like.

Not that I had anything to complain about this. In the late afternoon there were just a few kids left playing in the sand of the beach in front of the point and one lonely guy was still out having a blast. With the dropping tide the beachies in the bay started to get better again but I had other plans and drove back to Scarborough.
