I continued my drive north particularly to explore more of the coastline with its small bays, hidden coves and the many flat reefs reaching out into the North Sea. I didnīt drive very long before I left the main road for another stop.
I was in search for another bay but didnīt really know how to get there. So, I had just left the main road following the signs to Staithes. After a couple of hundred meters the road became very narrow and was marked as dead-end road so I pulled off to a parking at a visitor centre. Naturally it was a “pay and display” parking but the fees were reasonable.
As I had not enough coins I went to the visitor centre to change a 10-pound note. I ignored the sign at the entrance saying that they had run out of change but they meant it like that. But the guy in the shop had a solution and I ended buying a small map for 50 pence and got my change.
He also gave me some hints where to walk and I followed his advice. The town stretched along a steep valley cut into the cliffs by a small river. I walked along a narrow path through the flanks of the valley and passed the first buildings. After a while a reached a point where I the North Sea came back into view. The view made my pulse accelerate quite a bit.
