Temperatures were in very low single digits (centigrade) range and the wind added some extra chill and these women were swimming in the North Sea without any protection from the cold while I was dressed up in thick clothes and still felt chilly. I couldn´t believe it. Once again I was struck by the resistance to freezing of the local female population.

But obviously these women were from the local Sea Swim club and followed an old tradition, probably doings this year-round and therefore were used to this extreme work out. I nevertheless could even imagine doing something like this myself and went to look for a restaurant to warm up and have some food.

Tuesday. A stormy morning again. Pretty cold. Too cold for the season but the northerly wind carried a lot of arctic air. A sunny sky changed into heavy clouds with rain squalls and into sunny skies again.  The cold air coming with the wind meant it had quite a bit off fetch. The long fetch meant that there might be some waves coming from far up north too. I checked South Bay.

Hip to shoulder high waves made it into the bay. The wind was a very stiff side-offshore. I paddled out for a morning session but the strong offshore and the fairly weak waves breaking here kept it short. I soon decided to quit fighting the wind and spare energy. Too get warm afterwards I walked up to that café in the former cable car station that has this great view on the bay. A few scones and a coffee helped me to regain energy.
