But here things hadn´t really changed aside from the now overcast sky. Waves mostly had a quick peak and were only breaking for short distances. Still some nice peaks which would have been great at any other day at the North Sea. But they were below average at this special day. Soon I left again and returned to the mussel reef.

In “Cold Hawaii” city the sky now was an un-Hawaiian grey too. But some of the sets still rectified that bold brand name. The “cold” claim was easy to achieve this time of the year. The “Hawaii” claim hasn´t been fulfilled that oven in the past two decades. O.K., the left wasn´t exactly Pipeline.  But it still offered a long racy wall, the kind of wave we are not used to surf up here and would lick our fingers for every other given day.

The right on the other hand, had its “backdoor” moments. Surprisingly it was still almost only longboarders who capitalized on these excellent waves. Surfers on standard shortboards were completely absent. It was probably pumping somewhere else too. So, the guys on the long planks had their fun especially on the mid-sized waves which offered a mix of fast and cruisy sections.
