Capo Caccia – Grotta di Nettuno

West of Alghero at the end of the Porto Conte bay lies Capo Caccia, a massive block of lime rock with cliffs more then 100 meters high. The scenery itself is breath-taking – especially when viewed from the sea – but the real wonders of this cape lie inside the rocks. They hide a labyrinth of caves which stretch far inland and in parts underneath the ocean surface.
One of the most spectacular of these caves is the Grotta di Nettuno. This grotto is accessible via the long Escala del Cabirol, a staircase with 656 stairs carved out of the vertical cliff. The grotto is one of the most spectacular ones of the whole Mediterranean and can only be visited with guide but is well worth the money. The visit is a must-do if you are in the area. It will take you about half an hour and leads through some large halls with the most fantastic stalactites and stalagmites. Carefully set lamps illuminate a real wonder-world.

Along the cape lead some paths on top of the cliffs through the natur park that provide some nice walking / hiking and great views. From nearby Pischina Salida you can take boat rides around the cape, have a coffee and snack or just jump into the sea for a swim.

Check this gallery for more impressions of the Grotta di Nettuno.
