A force 4 – 5 wind was blowing above the absolute flat surface of the lake. We rigged up in record time and went out for a refreshing sail just before the sun set. A few servezas at a bar called “La Cueva De Macumba” helped us to chill down after another exciting day at the Yucatan peninsula.
Thursday, April 18th. On our way to Cancun we had a stop at Punta Sam for some light wind cruising, before we continued to this notorious tourist moloch that not that long ago was a nice little fishing village. Cancun was as bad as expected. We spent the evening there, watching in horror the gringo tourism night life. We fled this pretty soon and went back to Punta Sam, where we got stuck in the sand with the van. A couple of policemen and soldiers helped us out and we thanked them with a few packs of cigarettes.
The next day we drove to Punta Mordos, a classy beach with a upstream reef. Inside the sea was absolutely smooth, at the reef 1 meter waves were breaking. The wind wasn´t too strong, just force 4 – 5, so we had a cruisin´ style windsurfing session again. In the afternoon we tried to get tickets for the ferry to Cozumel on Saturday but didn´t any.
On Saturday there was no wind, so we hung around the port. I got into a long conversation with a drunk local, that turned out to be a Maya descendent who got absolutely broken by the “development” of his home village Cancun during the past decade. The evening ended in a friendly arm wrestling match with some locals.
