We knew where we wanted to go but we were not that sure about the way to get there. We drove past the stinky oil refineries of Fos sur Mer, took a ferry, passed Salin-de-Gireaud and followed the dirt track through the saline, hoping it would end in Beauduc. There were quite a few crossroads to pass and therefor quite a few decisions to make about the right direction to take.  The tracks were in bad condition, so we had to drive slow, but this gave us the opportunity to savour this fantastic aquatic labyrinth of ponds and swamps and saltines. Birds love this area and despite being in the middle of winter we spotted a few flamingos.

The former hippie settlement is now a mixture of mostly abandoned campers in the strangest forms and a few shaky wooden huts. This alone was worth the visit. But we came in search of some wind and we weren´t disappointed.

To reach the beach we had to make a few sketchy crossings of flooded areas with unknown depths. The wide beach offered multiple options for setting up the base camp and absolute solitude. There was not too much daylight time left, so we rigged up hastily our 4.5 sails.
