But we had only a day of Mistral and the next day the wind was gone. In addition it was cloudy, with the odd rain squall and so we decided to head to Courchevel in the nearby French Alps for a little bit of skiing. Driving up into the Alps was a good test for the winter abilities of my van as the streets were covered with snow. I used the good snow conditions for my first experiences on a snow board.
The first half day was – as expected – a nightmare of helplessly falling in the most stupid ways on a baby slope. But after lunch break I was already firm enough on the board to venture into real slopes. Still beginner slopes, but I managed to ride on the board and had fun. It definitely helped to have 20 years of skiing experience and knowing how to move a windsurf board wasn´t hindering either. Just my knee wasn´t really used to that kind of riding and after two days went on strike.
So we left and drove back to the Med. Next morning was the last day of the year and 1995 decided to reward us one last time. The morning was sunny, there was no wind and shoulder high waves were rolling in. We went for a very nice surfing session.
In the afternoon a little bit of wind was added to the still nice waves and we had a nice wave-sailing session.
