With the remnants of an old mast foot and a few things from my toolbox I constructed a lever to press the shutter release of my camera. On the lever I knotted a long rope, that I lead along the mast to the boom. A test release on the beach proved that the construction worked.

Time to go for a ride. I was a bit nervous, ´cause the camera had no water housing and the only protection against humidity was the tape. So I had to make absolutely sure, that the tip of the mast with the mounted camera would not touch the sea. The first run worked well. I did a chicken jibe outside, sped in and stopped in knee deep water. Here I turned the board and went for another ride, again with a dry hair chicken jibe. I did a few shots on the way in, going straight. Originally I had the plan to get a shot while riding the waves at the inside. But these were breaking pretty fast, more like a close-out and I would have to do the bottom turn one-handed. I didn´t dare this. Instead I went to the beach, dismounted the camera and went back out for little bit of shredding.

Despite my caution the camera must have suffered because after this experiment it refused to do more than 7 shots before rewinding the film automatically. Not the best behaviour when you work with 36 frames films. But I had finally got a few nice shots of myself windsurfing.
